THE CODE

What it means to be a Bastion Guard

Bastion Guard crest

Bastion Guard was built on the idea that all of us are Bastion Guards.

If these are values you believe in, we can help you get there.

Not glory. Good.

A Bastion Guard isn't someone who seeks glory or false virtue. They're someone who is just good, and does good.

The Code

Honour and respect. Strength and stoicism. An internal code we follow — each of us with our own strengths and weaknesses.

We act. We don't film.

We don't do protests. We don't film when someone needs help — we act. We can call on each other in times of need. We protect the vulnerable, the elderly, the weak. It's our responsibility. It's our duty.

An asset, not a liability

You need to be fit, strong and capable to be a Bastion Guard — able to handle yourself and stay aware, should a situation arise where you're needed to help someone.

We see so much bad happening in our towns and cities — even something as simple as an exercise group can make a difference. As we grow, there'll be more than walks too.

THE THREE PILLARS

Faith. Fitness. Brotherhood.

✝

Faith

Grounded in purpose. We don't preach — we live it. Faith gives the why behind the work.

⚒

Fitness

Discipline in the body builds discipline in life. Earn your rank through real, consistent effort.

🛡

Brotherhood

Men who show up for each other. Local, real, accountable — not an online community.

SAFETY & GUIDANCE
  • This programme is general fitness guidance, not medical advice. Speak to your GP before starting if you have a heart or blood pressure condition, diabetes, joint or back problems, take regular medication, or haven't exercised for a long time.
  • Warm-up (8–10 min): 5 min easy rowing, bike or brisk walking. Then bodyweight squats, hip hinges, arm circles and band pull-aparts. Before your first heavy exercise, do 2 lighter ramp-up sets.
  • Cool-down (5 min): easy walking, then light stretching of whatever you worked.
  • For lifting, finish most sets with 2 reps left in the tank. If the last rep was a grind and your form slipped, the weight was too heavy.
  • Technique before weight. Ask a gym instructor to check your squat, deadlift and press if you're unsure.
  • Sore is fine. Sharp or joint pain means stop that exercise.
  • Missed a session? Carry on with the next one. Don't double up.
  • Sleep 7 hours or more. It's the cheapest performance aid there is.
  • Ill with a fever or chest infection? Rest. Return gently.
  • Waterproofs and decent boots or trail shoes. It will rain, and that's no excuse.
  • From late October evenings are dark. Wear hi-vis or reflective kit and carry a head torch off-road.
  • Tell someone your route and expected return time for long walks in rural areas.
  • Take water and a snack for anything over 90 minutes.
  • Never test a one-rep max alone. Use a rack with safety bars and a spotter.
  • Joint pain that lingers beyond a few days: see a GP or physio.
  • Test in the week after a deload, when you're fresh. Warm up fully and build to your test weight in steps.
  • Fail a test? Train another four weeks and retest. It's information, not a verdict.
